Chanel Pre-Collection 2017 Small Shopper

Other Brands

As if there aren’t enough bags coming out in the new season to distract us (I have at least 5 on wait list now, and another 5 on my wish list), Chanel gives you one more reason with this bag from their Pre-Collection 2016 line-up. From the same collection as this one, the Caviar Grained Calfskin Messenger that many of you loved (and I’m happy to add, some of you bought), this one, the Small Shopper, will have many falling hard as well.

Measuring 30.5 cm by 20.5 cm, this quilted calfskin darling that’s slight bigger than A4 should be able to hold your work essentials, which besides your wallet, keys and make-up essentials, should also be able to hold an iPad and a couple of work files, especially useful for those who work on the go. It’s finished with aged, slightly tarnished gold-tone hardware that’s love, love, love. Priced at SGD6340, you can now find it at Chanel boutiques in Singapore, so I would suggest heading down soon to have a look if this one also happens to be on your lust list.

If you like the style of the Small Shopper but want something that’s less OL (office lady), why not check out this pair of Flap Bag options in the same collection. Seasonal pieces that come in 2 sizes, the smaller one measures 25 cm by 16 cm while the larger one, in that deep gorgeous Dark Green, comes in at 30 cm by 18.5 cm. Priced at SGD5410 and SGD5970 respectively, they would be the bags if you already have the Classic Flap bags and want something else to add colour and variety to your bag wardrobe.

And for those who love nothing but the Boy Chanel, here are just two of the seasonal interpretations of the now-iconic bag. On top, the shearling sheepskin and calfskin beauty that measures just 20 cm by 12 cm and finished with gold-tone hardware (SGD5710), and below that, another calfskin beauty that comes with braided detailing and completed with ruthenium metal hardware (SGD7390, 25 cm by 14.5 cm) that’s no less desirable. So, which of these would it be for you?

I’m a longtime fan of Balenciaga‘s motorcycle bags. Balenciaga was the first top-tier brand from which I bought multiple bags, the first of which came from money I had saved up at my college job. Not only will they always have a special place in my heart, but the slouchy, studded styles still fit my personal style quite well almost a decade later.

I first fell in love with Balenciaga bags during the Nicolas Ghesquiere era, and now we’re two creative directors removed from his tenure at the brand, in the early days of Demna Gvasalia’s leadership. So far he’s refocused the brand’s attention to deconstructed streetwear, which is his specialty, and along with that, he’s done a little deconstruction on one of the brand’s most recognizable pieces.

Motorcycle bags have a couple visual signatures, and the most important one is the bag’s stud pattern. On the Balenciaga Blackout City AJ Bag, the pattern persists but the studs are removed; in their place, we get perforations and negative space on an ultra-matte leather background. This version of the bag’s primary detailing is the idea of the bag itself, but in a way that doesn’t look like an unfinished mock-up, and it’s my favorite City design in years.

Unfortunately, the cool idea and execution make the bag significantly more expensive than a standard City, which means I likely won’t be adding it to my collection. If your budget is a little more flexible than mine, though, this bag can be yours for $2,950 via Balenciaga.

So, you tell me: are you as into this bag as I am, or do you prefer a more traditional Balenciaga look?

Let the roaring drum rolls as we present this iconic Balenciaga Classic City Bag in new design. Yes, ladies why not take a look at this Blackout Classic City Bag from Balenciaga. We tell you right now that it’s worth putting in the pedestal, worthy of our admiration.

So what makes this new and improved version so much better than the original one? Still channeling the minimalist approach on the label’s iconic City tote with this Black edition, this one features perforated detailing that ideally sits in place of the iconic studs for a truly modern and chic take on the highly coveted and most loved silhouette.

Let’s talk more about the bag details. It is made up of calf leather, with antique silver fastening, top handles and detachable shoulder strap. It also has a suede lining, internal zipped and slot pockets and a two way zipped top.

The Mini Size is measured 6.5′ x 9.5′ x 3.5′ (H x W x D), priced at $1900 USD or €1700 euro. The Small Size is measured 8′ x 12′ x 4.5′ (H x W x D) inches and is priced $2245 USD or €2010 euro, $3890 AUD, $20200 HKD, ¥303000 JPY via MyTheresa.
